Broken Crowns

The Battle of Broken Crowns, or just Broken Crowns as it is usually referred, was the single largest world changing event in the history of Obris. In the 1323 years since the battle, it has been lost to all but the most devout historians, what actually caused the battle. That of course didn't stop kingdoms from blaming others for it, using it as an excuse to make more war, but as time passed those kingdoms faded, brought down by the endless wars they pursued.      

The magical "mishap" that ended the battle caused an explosion so large it wiped out all life in a five-hundred mile radius, vaporizing the armies where they stood. This area has become a barren wasteland with nothing more than some patchy dry grass and the occasional small, woody, thorn covered shrub. With dead magic zones and areas with extreme surges of wild magic.

The land is believed to be cursed, with only the most fool-hearty daring to traverse, but those that do, tend to be treasure seekers, as it's believed the site of the final battle is littered with the equipment carried by the armies.
